The Husband and I decided to go for a walk through the Lincoln Park neighborhood Easter Sunday morning and enjoy the beautiful weather that Chicago was finally experiencing. We wanted to stop somewhere for a nice, quick breakfast, and luckily stumbled upon Blue Door Farm Stand, a relatively new addition to the boutique-heavy stretch of Armitage Avenue.
Upon walking into Blue Door, one immediately feels welcome due to the inviting shabby chic decor, rich woods and blue and white tones. Tables line one wall, while shelves displaying handcrafted and locally sourced pantry and gift items line the other.
Breakfast items are limited, and include two breakfast wraps, morning pastries and baked goods, and organic yogurt and granola parfait with local preserves. However, everything is done beautifully. Blue Door also offers a full coffee and tea menu, as well as its own cold pressed juices. Ordering is done at the counter and seating is available both in the front and back of the restaurant. The counter, pastry case, and open kitchen divide the two dining areas. Water is served in mason jars to add to the shabby chic decor.
The Husband and I each ordered a breakfast wrap – his with scrambled eggs, havarti cheese, bacon, roasted onions, and red bell peppers, and mine with scrambled eggs, havarti cheese, roasted zucchini, onions, bell peppers, and fine herbs. Both were made fresh to order, and wrapped in a wheat tortilla. A slice of orange was served on the side, and an array of hot sauces are available, as well. The wrap, boasting loads of fluffy eggs, was hot, fresh, and delicious. A dash of Cholula hot sauce gave it a nice kick.
The lunch and dinner menu at Blue Door is comprised of sandwiches, salads, soups, and various offerings of prepared foods, including hummus, chicken salad, kale slaw, and seasonal pasta salad. A children’s menu is also featured, and catering is available, as well. Blue Door’s menu changes with the seasons, and locally sourced products are used when possible.
Blue Door is the perfect spot for a casual coffee, breakfast, or lunch on your own, with your family, or even a group of friends.
