RM Champagne Salon is one of my favorite summer spots. Its impressive outdoor patio is evocative of a trip to Paris, with its cobblestone and tile flooring, strung lights, and surrounding brick facades. RM not only offers a fantastic selection of finely curated Champagnes, but wine, cocktails, and food, as well.
I recently visited on two separate occasions, and, aside from a hostess who looked everyone up and down upon arrival, had excellent experiences with service, drinks, and food. On both visits, I enjoyed the Berlucchi Rose, an Italian sparkling rosé that had just the right balance of crispness, citrus notes and acidity.
On Tuesdays, oysters are $1 between 5:00 – 8:00 p.m., so we had to try the daily selection of East and West coast oysters with our bubbles and yes, they were fantastic.
Worthy of the splurge is the petite seafood platter, which includes phenomenal lobster deviled eggs, featuring Maine lobster, organic eggs, and mustard; raw oysters; a delicious salmon tartare, made with organic salmon, sriracha aioli, ginger, and scallions; and a refreshing cobia crudo, with grapes, espelette, and lime. The seasoning on the crudo was a bit salty, but when brushed aside, the crudo was wonderful. This platter is perfect for two people.
The beet & burrata salad, with apples, watercress, and hazelnuts, was also fantastic – especially the creamy burrata cheese.
Another winner was the champignon flatbread, with oyster mushrooms and truffled fromage blanc. The only dish that did not “wow” me as much as the others was the steamed mussels. The pernod and shallot broth lacked flavor and overall the dish was just okay, especially as compared to the other items that we had.
The french fries, however, with saffron aioli, were warm, crispy on the outside and soft on the inside, and completely addictive.
All of the dishes pair perfectly with either Champagne or wine and are designed for sharing.
RM Champagne is an ideal location for a date or brunch or dinner for a group of friends. While the outdoor patio is outstanding, the interior features a warm, inviting setting, complete with a fireplace for colder fall and winter evenings. Until that time, you can find me on the patio, sipping a glass of Rosé al fresco.
