Shake Shack, the beloved burger, hot dog, and frozen custard stand, is opening up its very first Chicago location in River North on Tuesday, November 4th!
Originating in New York City as a hot dog cart, Shake Shack is a modern day “roadside” burger stand known for its 100% all-natural Angus beef burgers, griddled-crisp flat-top dogs, fresh-made frozen custard, crinkle cut fries, craft beer and wine, and more. A fun, lively, fine-casual restaurant with widespread appeal, over the past decade Shake Shack has earned a cult-like following around the world.
“Thirteen years ago, we created a humble hot dog cart in New York City, selling Chicago-style hot dogs to support the renovation of Madison Square Park. Three years later, that little hot dog cart birthed an accident we called Shake Shack. It’s only fitting that we finally made it to Chicago! We’re thrilled to finally be joining this incredible community,” said Shake Shack CEO Randy Garutti. “River North is such a robust, thriving neighborhood with great restaurants and hotels, and our neighbors have already been so welcoming.”
In addition to all the Shack favorites, the Chi-town Shack will serve a selection of location-specific frozen custard concretes featuring Chicago bakers and chocolatiers: Shack Attack (chocolate custard, fudge sauce, chocolate truffle cookie dough and Vosges black salt caramel chocolate, topped with chocolate sprinkles), Da S’mores (vanilla and chocolate custard with a slice of Bang Bang Pie s’mores pie), and Salted Carame‘L’ (vanilla custard, banana and Glazed & Infused salted caramel old fashioned doughnut).
As part of its community outreach efforts and mission to Stand For Something Good®, the River North Shack is partnering with Greater Chicago Food Depository, which provides food for those in need across Cook County. Five percent of sales from the Salted Carame‘L’ concrete will benefit the Greater Chicago Food Depository, and Shake Shack team members will volunteer at events run by the charitable organization.
Additionally, the interior walls of the Shack are clad in reclaimed local brown barn board. Like all Shacks, this location features energy-efficient kitchen equipment and lighting. Booths are made from lumber certified by the Forest Stewardship Council, and tabletops are made from reclaimed bowling alley lanes designed in Brooklyn, NY. On the Shack’s outdoor patio, which contains seating for 16, a series of planters crafted by SHIFT_Design are connected with reclaimed mountain climbing rope.
